Explosion Arresting Valve

Safety valves that stop an explosion wave from travelling through pipelines or process equipment.

Explosion Arresting Valve

How it works

An explosion arresting, or isolation, valve stops an explosion from spreading through ducts or pipes to other equipment. It is held open by the normal flow and closes quickly when the pressure wave of an explosion arrives, blocking the path. It protects connected vessels, filters and rooms.

Typical applications

  • Ducts between dust collectors and the rest of the plant
  • Connections between silos, mills and dryers
  • Pipelines that link several process units

Standards and guidance commonly referenced for this product type

  • EN 16447
  • EN 15089
  • ATEX 2014/34/EU

These are general references. Compliance and test reports for a specific product are provided per project.

Where is an isolation valve installed?

Between the equipment where an explosion may start and the other equipment it must not reach, at a distance that the manufacturer’s testing allows. The valve type, its position and the duct size must match the tested range, as set out in EN 16447 and EN 15089.
